The fabled Kashmir Valley is renowned for its beauty and historic interest. But - for the person who loves golf Kashmir offers a wonderful mix of golfing pleasure, plush lakeside houseboats, spectacular Himalayan scenery, the best of historical sightseeing, shopping, and lots of fun!!! These pleasures can be enjoyed with family and friends. If you prefer to “get away from it all” for half a day, or more, then golf provides you with a number of options while your family are engaged in other interesting and fun pursuits.
The best time to visit Kashmir for these pleasures: April to November.
Within close proximity of Srinigar and your up-market houseboats on Nageen Lake, there are 4 golf courses:
* Srinigar - Kashmir Golf Club [18 holes]
* Srinigar - Royal Springs Golf Course [18 holes]
* Gulmarg - an alpine golf course [18 holes]
* Pahalgam - 9 hole golf course with an 18 hole course under construction
In Srinigar the golfer has a wealth of choices in two excellent golf courses. Both of them are within a short drive of your lakeside luxury houseboats. A round of golf can therefore be easily woven into your holiday schedule - permitting you to concentrate on your golfing interest and associated pleasures.
Kashmir Golf Club – is located within a minute’s drive of Srinigar’s city centre. A comfortable Club House and warm welcome equal to its 50 year traditions awaits your presence. This is an 18 hole course to challenge the best golfers. It has been the site, in earlier years, of national golf tournaments. It provides the best of low-cost tuition to beginners and those who wish to improve quickly.
Royal Springs Golf Course – the latest addition to Kashmir’s golfing infrastructure is the ultra-modern Royal Springs Golf Course at Chashmashahi. It has been described as one of the most picturesque golf courses in Asia, and it is the venue of many prestigious golfing events. From your houseboat accommodation, this course is less than a 15 minute drive around the most beautiful and spectacularly set Dal Lake.
The golf course at Gulmarg [18 holes] was established by the British in 1904 and, at 2,650 metres, is the highest green golf course in the world.
The course is set in a magnificent alpine resort surrounded by imposing forests with grassy slopes emblazoned with wildflowers. It became a favourite resort for the Moghul Emperor Jahangir.
Only 56 kms from Srinigar [and your plush houseboat accommodation] the “Gulmarg experience” can be as short as a spectacular scenic day-trip with a wonderful round of golf, or HILLTOURS can arrange overnight and extended periods in this low-cost alpine playground.
Pahalgam is now Kashmir’s premier summer resort. It has a 9 hole golf course with an 18 hole course under construction. At an altitude of 2,130 metres it is noted for its cool climate even at the height of an Indian summer. Pahalgam is surrounded by many places of interest and is the beginning point for the annual Hindu Amarnathji Yatra pilgrimage to the Armanath Cave.
Again, the pleasures of Pahalgam are within easy distance of your houseboat accommodation at vibrant Srinigar.
